Sleep tip #6
You shouldn't drink
before bedtime
Beer before bed? It's not the best idea.
Alcohol can negatively affect your sleep patterns, hormone levels, and more. It's a common misconception that alcohol helps you sleep. The truth is, it can have the opposite effect on your hormones and sleep cycle.
A study found that alcohol consumption at night decreased the natural nighttime elevations in human growth hormone (HGH), which plays a role in your circadian rhythm and has many other key functions.
Here are some ideas that will help you be mindful and drink only at the best times;
Three-hour interval
The period between your last drink and when you go to bed should be at least three hours.
Water
To help flush out the alcohol, drink water along with the alcohol.
Eat while you Drink
Drink alcohol while you eat. As you'll probably eat before bed, this is an excellent strategy to limit your drinking.
On medication? No alcohol
Avoid alcohol if you're taking sleeping pills. Both are depressants and when combined, they can make it very difficult for someone to breathe while they're sleeping.
